"Finding Birds 101"

Presenters: Jason Loghry & Ben Hortmann

How do I find out what birds are near me?  If you’re a new birder of new to an area, it can be tough to find places to bird or find out about rarities quickly. Jason Loghry and Ben Horstmann, two avid birders in the Coastal bend, will share some pointers and resources for finding birds and birding hotspots near you, and in the locations you plan to travel.  They will also discuss ways to report and keep your lists.

Ben Horstmann serves as the Regional Interpretive Specialist for South Texas State Parks.  His addiction to birding was a direct result of moving to the coastal bend and birding with park staff and volunteers.  Jason Loghry is a student of Range and Wildlife Management at Texas A&M University in Kingsville.  Before returning to Texas, he had spent several years in East Asia, mostly looking at shorebirds.
