Hawks of the Texas Coastal Bend

Presenter: Dane Ferrell

Join Dane Ferrell for a discussion on some of the most frequently counted raptors at the Corpus Christi Hawk Watch at Hazel Bazemore Park.  We will cover some helpful identification tips, and review the historical numbers for such species as the Broad-winged Hawk, Swainson’s Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin, Mississippi Kite, and Swallow-tailed Kite.  Last but not least, we will pass out hand counters, (clickers), and you will experience the counting of migrating raptors. Come and join us!

Dane is a long time raptor enthusiast.  He has completed 17 projects for HawkWatch, International, including the last 15 fall counts here in Corpus Christi.  He is an avid birder and when not counting raptors, he spends his free time looking for birds, butterflies, and other awesome creatures of the natural world.
