"SOLVING SHOREBIRD ID PROBLEMS"

Presenter: Mel Cooksey

Are shorebirds a tough group of birds for you to ID? Have you ever wished you could quickly and confidently put a name to them?

Mel Cooksey, of Corpus Christi, is a life-long birder with a special interest in bird status and distribution, migration trends, and subtle identification techniques.  His special interests are shorebirds, sparrows and flycatchers.

Mel will share with you the expected shorebird species in the Coastal Bend in spring, and help you with some key means of identification- applying size, shape, and behavior as well as plumage in spring to sort out the more confusing shorebirds such as peeps and dowitchers.

Mel's presentation will be good preparation for Saturday's shorebird field trip, where you can practice what you've learned.
