"Wild Times Inside Purple Martin Houses"

Presentation by Louise Chambers

Along with covering the basics of how to attract and manage a colony of Purple Martins, we’ll peek inside their houses to find out what’s going on- why younger females prefer older males and what shenanigans younger males get up to as a result.  We’ll also cover what types of housing work well and how to deal with problems that can pop up.

Louise Chambers graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art, working in the disciplines of sculpture and pottery for a time before becoming totally engrossed in birds.  She started working for the Purple Martin Conservation Association (PMCA) in 1991 and stayed there for 25 years, editing the association’s quarterly magazine and assisting with management and research projects.  Since retiring she continues to look after purple martins, and enjoys birding, gardening, and butterflies.
